The Nutcracker 2021 at the Theatre Royal Nelson competed with the challenges of Covid-19. A team of professional creatives produced a spectacular, entertaining Nutcracker supported by professional dancers from all over Aotearoa.

The innovative set design created by local artist Lee Woodman. A miniature set in a box was live-streamed and projected onto the backdrop while being manipulated by the mysterious Drosselmeyer.

This huge collaboration of talent- with local artists, cultural communities, dance studios, professional and student dancers. Over 130 performers took part in this holiday extravaganza.

This production included collaborations with Cheerleaders, Hip Hop Dancers, and other categories of dance. The exception professional dancers worked with and trained the local talent throughout the rehearsal period.

This production also added a character director to support the young performers in building their characters.
