Smile Lines is an intergenerational reflection. This is a new duet choreographed by Loughlan Prior, an accomplished, theatrical, and innovative choreographer (RNZB Choreographer in Residence, and choreographer for full-length Hansel & Gretel 2019). Lesley Bandy and Laura Saxon Jones portray a dialogue, amusing moments, recollections… first time dance attendees have pronounced their connection to this piece and that it has inspired them to attend more dance.
Grooves!
Sets ballet to classic rock songs resonating with audiences of all walks of life. This show promises to entertain and connect with the audience.
"Grooves promised a mix of ballet, contemporary, and a touch of tango with classic rock and it certainly delivered on all counts. This performance took my breath away and had me totally transfixed from beginning to end. It was so special to be able to see top-quality professional dancers from all over New Zealand perform - each bringing their own personality and incredible talent - making the 10 pieces truly come alive. It was also great to see three local students perform and what a fabulous opportunity for them – to be able to spend time with, and learn from, professional dancers. It’s so hard to pick a favorite but the one that really touched my soul was ‘’Smile Lines’’ – an intergenerational piece choreographed by the RNZB’s Choreographer in Residence, Loughlan Prior. Set to the most beautiful classical music, Lesley Bandy and Laura Jones’ movements flowed like silk and brought tears to my eyes – it was magical. This truly was a show for everyone – even if you’ve never danced or been to a ballet. It was captivating and the choice of music was perfect with the dancers bringing it to life in such a special way. I’d go again in a heartbeat." - Philippa Foes-Lamb
